Your wedding band is important to you. It’s a symbol of the bond between you and your partner, and you don’t ever want to go anywhere without it – including work. But what happens when you’re working with heavy machinery, dangerous equipment or conductive electronics? Metal wedding bands don’t always go over well in the workplace. Fortunately, you’ve got alternatives, like the silicone ring, at your disposal!

What are silicone rings?

It’s all in the name! Soft and hypoallergenic, silicone rings are a much safer alternative to your traditional wedding ring. They’re flexible and fit perfectly on your finger; never too tight, never too loose. Thanks to their rubbery stretch, they’ll conform to the shape of your finger even if your weight changes. Silicone rings are also much less expensive than regular wedding rings and can be found online and in most jewelry stores near you.

What makes silicone rings ideal for the workplace?

Because they’re so soft and flexible, silicone rings are much safer to wear in high intensity workplaces. Wearing them significantly reduces the risk of personal injury in many situations, such as:

  • Getting hooked. When your line of work involves heavy machinery or tools, the last thing you want is for your ring to get hooked on something. Whether it’s the gears of an engine or the bolts holding a conveyor belt together, your ring could easily get stuck on a moving part. If this happens, metal rings might crack if you’re lucky; if they don’t, you run the risk of losing a finger. Silicone rings, on the other hand, will tear if they get stuck, freeing your hand before any damage can be done.
  • Conducting electricity. If you work closely with live electricity, a metal ring is definitely not the accessory you want to be wearing. Electricity has a tendency to spark to the closest conductor, and depending on what it’s made of, that might your wedding ring (and in turn, your hand). Wearing protective gloves can help, but they may tear if your ring contains any stones. Silicone bands are non-conductive, ultimately eliminating the risk of shock.
  • Becoming magnetized. Not unlike getting hooked, a metal ring may become stuck to other metals in a magnetized field, trapping your hand in the process. A silicone ring eliminates this possibility and reduces the risk of injury in your workplace.

No matter your line of work, your safety comes first – if your metal wedding ring poses a risk of injury, a silicone band might just be the choice for you. It can keep your fingers safe at work, and your real wedding ring safe and sound at home.
