During the 25th anniversary event in Japan today Square Enix unveiled the next chapter in the Final Fantasy XIII saga and it’s not Final Fantasy XIII-3.
Called Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, this final installment to the Etro-vs.-Chaos storyline ( set hundreds of years after FFXIII-2 ) will have gamers playing as Lightning throughout the entire game.
Square Enix hasn’t stated if other characters from previous games will make a non-playable appearance in this sequel.
So what’s under the oven in LR:FFXIII?
According to reports, LR:FFXIII will offer real-time combat, an open world, full character customization and lots more. Lightning will have access to new abilities, such as the new “Overclock” ability which allows her to slow the flow of combat for everyone but herself.
However using this ability will sacrifice time as Lightning only has 13 ( in-game ) days to save the world from impending doom.
This doomsday clock will run out and force you to the final battle, whether you’r ready or not so players will have to keep that in mine as they play the game.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is scheduled for a 2013 release for the PS3 and 360.
