It appears that another rumor surrounding Final Fantasy Versus XIII has been proven false.
According to Square Enix Members fan club Square Enix has reportedly confirmed that the action rpg won’t appear at the Tokyo Game Show later this month. Instead the company’s focus will be on the newly announced Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Both of those games are scheduled for a 2013 debut.
Announced at E3 over 6 years ago, Final Fantasy Versus XIII remains one of the company’s most anticipated projects. At the recent Final Fantasy 25th anniversary event, the game’s director left a message for fans asking for their patience once again.
Tabloid journalism
1) Square didnt confirm anything. This rumor comes from a source who claims he spoke with someone and doesnt have the proof to back it up
2) Versus will most likely be at tgs
3) Silent chief, stay classy with false reporting
From Andriasang:
Square Enix Members fan club- “I spoke about a number of things with Mr. Hashimoto today. It looks like Versus won’t be at Tokyo Game Show. They’re first putting all their effort info FFXIV and the Lightning Saga finale.” Shar later added, “He said that we’re developing it, so please look forward to next year.”
I don’t doubt the word of the person who tweeted this. I do believe that the game’s executive producer would take time to share bits of info with the Japanese SEM fan club. What benefit would someone in his/her position gain by making this up?
It’s not like the Kotaku rumor which was obviously false and one that we questioned instead of taking it at face value like most other big websites did.
There is no difference between this and that kotaku rumor. Even that kotaku rumor is said to be from a “reliable source”. Not because you’re a member of Square Enix’ fan club means that you can more chance of getting exclusive news or info about Squeenix’ games. Anyone can be a member of that club. It’s no different from any other forums out there in terms of news, info and other things(the only diff is that you can get points and bonuses on squeenix products, yes i am a member).
So before you proudly publish an article that CLAIMS something is CONFIRMED. I suggest you wait for news from SQUEENIX themselves, not some person who claimed he talked to someone from Squeenix. Even if that is true, the fact that he, himself is not 100% sure of it makes it even more questionable for people to claim that is has already been confirmed.
If noone wants to believe this person’s word then perhaps this will convince you:
Via Nova Crystallis:
Seems a user over at FF-Reunion was able to speak to Hashimoto today regarding the report from earlier. They asked him if it were true that Versus XIII would not be at TGS as per what people were saying online. To this he replied, “That’s right, I’m sorry…”
Hashimoto has confirmed the news to two different people now. I understand this is extremely disappointing and I understand why most would want to wait for the company to make a public announcement on the matter just don’t shoot the messenger.
And thanks for commenting.
As stated on that link as well, Tetsuya Nomura himself announced before that the game will not be showing on TGS 2009 but, lo and behold it did, although just not shown in public. I expect the same this year. Besides I don’t think producers will easily give info to just some random guy he happens to talk to. They might but they don’t always tell the whole story.
