Nostalgic Resident Evil fans hoping for the return of the classic gameplay ( fixed viewpoints and slower pacing ) may have to wait a while. According to producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, the only way that he sees the old-school Resident Evil formula making a return is on a portable system and not HD consoles.
“I think nowadays that would be hard putting an old-school-style console game on, say, the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, I don’t think the technology is suited for that style of gameplay,” he told Digital Spy at Gamescom.
“But that’s not to say we couldn’t do that on another platform. I think mobile platforms, for example, might be suited to a classic Resident Evil game. For example on PSP you could definitely do a classic-style game like that.”
Kobayashi went on to say that he making such a game is not something he’d like to do right now. On the other hand, he would like to create something completely different if he had the opportunity.
