Despite the unfortunate closure of Zipper Interactive not too long ago, Sony Computer Entertainment remains keen on the future of the studio’s popular third person tactical shooter, Socom.
In a recently published PTOM interview Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide President Shuhei Yoshida wouldn’t rule out additional Socom installments in the future:
“Socom is not done,” Yoshida told the publication. “ We never definitely retire any franchise. Its sometimes great to have a fresh look at the classics that we have. We are launching a new Sly Cooper game this year after so many years. Never say never.”
“I feel sorry for people who are longtime Socom fans, and there are many people who still play Socom 1 and Socom 2 especially; those seem to be their favorites.”
Socom 4: U.S. Navy SEALS which was released last April for the PS3 was greeted with a lukewarm reception by the media and long time fans. This was mostly due to the game’s departure from the realistic, tactical team-based gameplay that the series was best known for.
