Video Game Industry Responds To Colorado Shooting,Twisted Metal Director Wants Tougher Gun Laws

Days later, the motives behind 24-year-old James Holmes’ shooting rampage early Friday at a packed midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado is still unclear.  The young man who according to local authorities planned the attack months in advance and called himself  “The Joker” after being apprehended, is blamed for the senseless deaths of 12 people and wounding 59 others, some critically.

And while violent video games has received some of the blame for the tragedy, those who work in the industry have shared their response to the atrocity through social media.

Voice Actress Ali Hillis ( Final Fantasy XIII/XIII-2/ Mass Effect series ): ”Can’t stop thinking about the shooting in Colorado… my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this horrific event. #why”

Voice Actor Liam O’ Brien ( Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes/ Final Fantasy XIII-2) was one of the nearly 16k people who re-tweeted the following comment made by Shaun Dakin : “In one year, GUNS murdered 35 in Australia,  39 in England and Wales,  194 in Germany,  200 in Canada, and  9,484 in the United States.”

Voice Actress Emily Rose ( Uncharted series ) also took time to re-tweet a comment made by TV Host Kristina Kuzmic: “If you believe in the power of prayer (and I certainly do), please take time to pray for all affected by the horrific shooting in Colorado.”

While the always outspoken Twisted Metal director David Jaffe got into a lengthy debate about the incident with Design Director and Founder of Sandswept Studios, Geoff Keene and several others on Twitter. Here’s just a sample of what Jaffe had to say during the exchange:

“… allowing our population to legally obtain these kinds of weapons ( semi/automatic rifles ) is akin to leaving our doors unlocked in a shitty neighborhood.”

Very sad indeed but Jaffe is right. How could this disturbed person managed to get a rifle baffles me. I like living in a free world but someone has to some serious maintenance because things got out of control.

    Best regards,
