2012 will likely go down in history as the year when the world may or may not come to an end ( assuming you believe that Mayan rumor ) and the year of Resident Evil. With three announced Resident Evil titles slated for the year Capcom is pretty confident in its 16 year old franchise.
According to Capcom’s UK Product Manager Karl Reader consumers are “buying brands that they can trust” as pre-orders for Resident Evil titles are “through the roof”.
“Our pre-order figures have given us a huge amount of confidence that the title [ Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City ] will perform well despite the current conditions at UK retail,” Reader stated.
Operation Raccoon City is being co-developed by Canadian studio, Slant Six Games and will offer a new take on team-based action horror. With Operation Raccoon City Capcom is expecting to attract a wider audience to the long running franchise. Capcom also has “extensive DLC” in the works for the shooter to increase its longevity.
As far as that other big Resident Evil release of the year in the region, Reader added that “Resident Evil 6 pre-orders are strong too given that we’ve yet to announce any pre-order offerings or partners”.
Resident Evil 6 is scheduled to launch November 20th. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City arrives next month.
