Not you father's Metal Gear
It’s been over two years since the game was unveiled to the masses so leading up to Spike Tv’s Video Game Awards the excitement was building. Gamers didn’t know what to expect from the 3 minute long trailer until it was finally aired leaked online. The footage revealed a new name and development team for the spin-off.
While this news hasn’t been well receive by some, Metal Gear Rising: Revengence still has the potential to be one of the best action games released next year.
Why?
Two reason: Platinum Games and Kojima Productions.
With Bayonetta and Vanquish Platinum Games has already proven they know their way around a good action game. Both titles developed by PG were well received by gamers and the gaming press.
Bayonetta alone took the genre to new heights with its stylish over the top action. Working closely with Kojima productions Metal Gear: Rising will likely have a good combination of fast action and a compelling story.
Many have compared Rising’s new look to a build first shown two years ago which, according to Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, was not suited for the kind of gameplay Rising features. Under Platinum Games, Rising is expected to pull off 60 frames per second, an achievement not possible under the project’s previous direction.
The only downside to Kojima Productions not developing this game lies with the graphics. Platinum Games has yet to known for making the best looking game on the market, something Kojima Productions has pulled off with every new Metal Gear Solid installment. If the VGA trailer is any indication, Rising won’t win any awards for visuals. However until the game is polished and completed it’s too early to judge it in that department.
In conclusion, Metal Gear Rising: Revengence is a spin-off that has nothing to do with the main series. By all accounts Raiden’s first solo outing is in the capable hands of a seasoned group of developers that have a good track record when it comes to fast paced action games.
