Come November 17th Sony’s successor to the popular PlayStation 2 will hit a milestone. As the system’s 5th year on the market grows closer for North American territories we’re honoring the games that made the console what it is today.
Yesterday we got the ball rolling with Naughty Dog’s Uncharted franchise, today it’s Sack boy’s turn.

Before 2008 few people had heard of a little-known studio based in the United Kingdom. All that changed after Little Big Planet hit the scene. Released a few years ago, Media Molecule’s family friendly platformer received a warm welcome from PS3 owners and made the game’s customizable star, Sack boy, the system’s unofficial mascot.
In Little Big Planet gamers from around the globe were encouraged to create their very own level, upload and share it for the world play. This form of user-created content was the biggest selling point for the platformer. Two years after launch LBP had sold over 4.5 million worldwide. Little Big Planet offered a gaming experience you couldn’t find anywhere else…at least until Little Big Planet 2 came along.

Earlier this year Media Molecule released a follow up to Little Big Planet that transformed the award winning series from a simple platformer to a ”platformer for games”. If you can imagine it, chances are you can create it in Little Big Planet 2. With new features that allows players to create movies, better music and truly unique levels, Little Big Planet 2 proved to be a huge leap forward from it’s predecessor.
As a whole Little Big Planet plays host to over 3 million user created levels. Add on content in the form of special Metal Gear Solid, Toy Story, Pirates of the Caribbean levels plus the addition of PlayStation Move content help add to the game’s lasting appeal.
At this point it doesn’t appear that Media Molecule will be working on a third installment to Little Big Planet any time soon as the studio begins work on a bold new project. But as long as LBP2 has the community to back it Sack boy’s adventures through Craftworld will never end.
Tune in tomorrow as we highlight another new electrifying IP that can only be found on PS3.
