The very first review of Dark Souls comes to us from the Japanese gaming magazine Dengeki PlayStation. The spiritual successor to Demon’s Souls was given a much higher score than the 2009 breakout hit which received a score of 85/85/95/85 from the mag. Dark Souls was given 90/90/95/95, a near perfect score from Dengeki PlayStation.

The reviews were impressed by the game’s atmosphere, graphics and loading time. The two reviewers who gave the game a 90 made note that the difficulty was rather high. One question if the game will be a bit too hard for beginners.
Another mentioned experiencing difficulty fighting many enemies in narrow areas. It also doesn’t appear that the online portion of the game was tested in the review. Despite it’s difficulty Dark Souls was praised as being a “perfect action rpg” in the review.
Dark Souls is out later this month in Japan and in October for the rest of the world.
