Producer Naoki Yoshida Going The Extra Mile For FFXIV

How often does a video game producer take time out of his ( or her ) hectic schedule just to travel around the world and meet up with enthusiastic fans?  This week Final Fantasy XIV Producer & Director, Naoki Yoshida ( Yochi-P ) is doing just that.

Because FFXIV is a “global endeavor” Yochi-P will be traveling to Square Enix’s London and Los Angeles branches to meet with representatives from some of the game’s fan sites. Someone give this man a raise.

While at 30,000 feet Yochi-P shared the results of the second Final Fantasy XIV Players’ Poll which received “tens of thousands” of responses. There were a total of 10 questions asked. I listed a few of the most interesting ones below.

1. What do you feel are currently the most significant issues with the battle system? (up to three answers)

2. What type of class role would you like to use in combat?

3. How frequently would you like to engage in party-based play?

4. What types of game content would you like to undertake while in a party? (up to three answers)

Yochi-P also mentioned that they are working on introducing PvE content to the mmorpg as well. With the results of this and the first player poll the development team is putting the final touches on the revamped the battle system which could go live as early as Spring.

The data has really helped us map out the direction in which to take the battle system from here. All that’s left to do is to finalize the specs and start writing the code. But after-the-fact adjustments and reworkings being what they are, it simply isn’t possibly to fit everything that needs to be done in a single monthly patch.

And so we’re planning to release every big change over the course of two smaller-size updates. You’ll be able to start seeing the changes to the battle system come spring, so please be patient just a bit longer!

On a side note, if you’re wondering about the PS3 version of FFXIV, Yochi-P told FFXIVZam back in January that a date for the PS3 version won’t be set until “our current players are fully enjoying FFXIV. ”
