Inafune Talks Devil May Cry
With over 10m sales worldwide, the Devil May Cry series is one of the top 5 best selling franchises for Capcom. The fourth game in the series sold around 3 million copies across the PC and PS360. Reports that Capcom has chosen to outsource development of the next game to western developers, possibly Ninja Theory, have gone unconfirmed by the company.
While not mentioning any details regarding the game’s development, Capcom’s Keiji Inafune recently stated that the next Devil May Cry game will be catered to not what fans want as previously stated, but what the west wants.
Devil May Cry 5 is a game that, when started development, this will change a lot in relation to the above.” said Inafune when speaking to Spanish site 3DJuegos. “The reason is that, despite the franchise has some very loyal followers, their sales are not particularly high, especially overseas.”
Inafune-san’s above statement doesn’t confirm Ninja Theory’s involvement in a new DMC game but it does echo the Japanese company’s plans to outsource development of franchise sequels. Being a DMC aficionado since day 1 I’ll try not to judge Capcom too harshly until they actually reveal the game publicly. I’m crossing my fingers that the next DMC game recaptures the magic that made the series fun on the PS2.
