Five PS3 Exclusives We Still Play Online
The PS3′s gaming library may be expanding rapidly but there are still a few forgotten gems out there many people continue to enjoy playing. While most of these games were released nearly 2 years ago, in some cases,it’s the online multiplayer experience that keeps players coming back for more.
Here’s my list of the top 5 most active multiplayer games exclusively for the PS3.
Metal Gear Online:
Metal Gear Online was released with Metal Gear Solid 4 exclusively on the PS3 over 2 years ago. While MGS 4 has gone one to sell over 5 million copies worldwide, Metal Gear Online has topped 1 million accounts worldwide. Konami recently celebrated MGO’s two year anniversary with a special “METAL GEAR ONLINE 2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY WEEK” event.
Uncharted 2:
Released October 2009, Uncharted 2 won several awards for it’s single player mode. To the satisfaction of many gamers Uncharted 2 also included numerous multiplayer modes which added longevity of the game. The online portion of Uncharted 2 averages around 50k or more daily players. As of February 2010, the game has sold over 3.5 million copies worldwide, becoming the fastest selling first-party title on any PlayStation platform.
Demon’s Souls:
The award winning rpg from FROM SOFTWARE offers an unique take on online multiplayer. Players can either be invited to join each other’s game as a Blue Phantom or they may choose to appear un invited as a Black Phantom for the sole purpose of being a player killer. Players can also summon a Black Phantom into the game if the phantom uses the correct soul stone. Unfortunately North American servers of the game will go offline in March 2011.
Resistance 2:
Released in 2008, Resistance 2 received many awards including Best Muliplayer Experience on PlayStation 3 by IGN and Best First-Person Shooter of E3 2008 by GameTrailers. Despite the advent of other PS3 shooters like MAG and Killzone 2, many people still play Resistance 2 online including new players to the game. Finding an active game online is rarely an issue.
White Knight Chronicles:
Level-5′s mmorpg, White Knight Chronicles, may not be the graphical masterpiece or the commercial success as Final Fantasy XIII but that’s not stopping gamers from enjoying what WKC offers online. WKC was released in February of this year in North America. On any given day you can find numerous players questing online. Two popular “rooms” in the game used to launch quests from usually plays host to 200+ players daily a piece.
Other popular online games for the PS3:
Little Big Planet
KillZone 2
Warhawk
Ha i find it hilarious that you didn’t mention socom confrontation. The game has more players all these games combined.
hahaha and ha. where is killzone 2?
Killzone 2 didn’t make my personal top 5. But it is mentioned. As for Socom confrontation, the game slipped my mind when I was writing this article.
You missed MAG in here as well – while it’s the game people love to ignore, it’s had 3000+ people online whenever I’ve been on, and is often closer to the 5000 mark – far more than SOCOM usually has (which is also a great, although very different game, and also very active, at least as much as KZ2). I’d also suspect that ModNation Racers still has a pretty respectable following online
.
Sounds like LBP beats Socom & MAG. It usually has over 10k online whenever I log in.
