Bioware: “PlayStation 3 is Quite Strong and Growing Rapidly”

One of the biggest announcements out of last week’s Gamesom trade show in Germany was EA’s confirmation that the Mass Effect franchise would be expanding to Sony’s black box. This news may have angered some fans, however, Bioware’s Greg Zeschuk told IGN that the decision to develop a PS3 version of the game was a good one.

“We got asked a lot by the press, asked a lot by the fans,” said Zeschuk. “It’s also very timely that we’re doing it here at Gamescom. You want to get your game to as many people as possible, you want to have the broadest possible audience. In Europe, the PlayStation 3 is quite strong and growing rapidly. The same in the U.S., but particularly in Europe.”

Mass Effect 2 will hit a PS3 near you in January 2011. The PS3 version of the game will include DLC of the 360 and PC versions as well as “a brief introductory element to the game that takes you through the events of [Mass Effect] and introduces you to [Mass Effect 2]“.
