8 Steps Namco Needs to Take to Improve the Next Tekken Game

More Mini Games

The PS360 versions of Tekken 6 was a straight port of the one found in the arcades. In the past when Tekken was ported from the arcade, Namco released tons of extra modes and features for the home version of the game not found in the arcade, like Tekken Ball, Tekken Force and Tekken Bowling.

With Tekken 6 we got the broken mess known as Scenario Mode. If the PSP version of Tekken 5: DR can have Tekken Bowl why not the console version? Hopefully Namco can redeem itself with the next Tekken.

Bring Back Tag

Tekken aficionados have been hoping Namco would create another Tekken Tag Tournament or include a tag option in their fighter for years but for whatever reason their calls have gone ignored for the past four Tekkens.

There have been signs that a possible tag mode may be in the works for Tekken. We’ll have to wait and see though.

Bigger, More Interactive, More Detailed Arenas

Some of the lighting in a few of the arenas in Tekken 6 were pretty flashy while others were plain old dull. Take for instance the snow and forest stages. After playing Uncharted 2 the snow and water effects of Tekken 6 were unimpressive. One can argue that the console versions of Tekken 6 are an aged port of it’s arcade brethren but to this day I still consider DOA 4 as the best looking 3D fighter to date and that game is almost 5 years old.

Keep The Wait At A Minimum

After nearly 2 years in the arcade, Tekken 6 was the longest fans had to wait for a Tekken game to hit home consoles. The arcade scene may still be big business in some parts of the world but it’s pretty much dead in North America.

The machines that run Tekken 6 were a bit on the expensive side which was a turn off for some businesses. I understand Namco’s desire to keep Tekken in the arcades but for those without access to an one, waiting 2+ years for a fighting game is a bit much.

In closing…

Tekken 6′s new game play elements ,including Bound, Rage and the juggle system, were good additions to the series and shouldn’t be changed in my opinion. Maybe adjusted a little but not changed. I loved the character animations and attention to detail.

The Tekken franchise is a long running one that is still enjoyable but if Namco wants to keep the series from going stale then they shouldn’t just make another Tekken game for the sake of it. They should make another Tekken game with the goal of being the best 3D fighter ever.

The first thing they should do is NOT LISTEN TO RETARDS WHO DON’T ACTUALLY PLAY FIGHTING GAMES!!!!

I totally agree with all changes u suggested but the one thing i disagree is the part where u say there should be less characters.I mean,i’ll admit namco should get rid of all the lame characters like the animals, mokujin, and the old guy(i forgot his name)and they should replace them with brand new orginal characters. No fan of Tekken whats to play a game with less charcters then there were in the previous game.I think they should just keep adding and adding characters, and the other thing i REALLY disagree with u is that they should take out christie monteiro are out of you CRAZY i know her and eddy share the same moves(which namco should change)but they shouldnt just take her out she’s the best chick on that game thus far i dont care wnat anybody says

Well yeah i know there not real but in the game christie is still the best girl in tekken(besides jun kazama but namco wont bring her back)

Asuka’s the new Jun, which is really annoying. I prefer to play Jun over Asuka the same way I’d rather play Forest over Marshal, even though they fight the same. Go figure.

I forgot about Kunimitsu though. She’s a pretty good female character.

I fogot about kunimistu to i wish namco would just bring all the characters from tekken that disapeared from the game

Christie is the best female character? I strongly disagree.

However if your definition of ‘best’ means a character that can dish out incredible combos just by button mashing so the noobs can stand a chance against more experienced players, well, you’re probably right.

The best female character for me is Nina Williams. Balanced fighting style with lethal attacks, short and long range pokes, chained grabs, and of course, a few flaws. Mastering her would take a lot more effort and practice than the simple ‘press buttons randomly’ style of Christie.

As for Tekken 7, I agree with this. We also need a better story mode, focusing on things from the character’s point of view and not from *shudders* Lars.

I think we’ll be seeing alot more Lars stories in future Tekkens since Jin’s ( possibly ) out of the picture.
