This week a few shadows were lifted from Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Versus XIII . New details regarding Versus XIII revealed that the game is shaping up to be the open world experience gamers haven’t been exposed to from Square in a long time.
One screenshot of the game even has some already comparing Versus to Bethesda Game Studios popular action role-playing game, Fallout 3.
Despite this week’s news from Japan, there’s still a lot we don’t know about Final Fantasy Versus XIII. However, if you compare what we do know about the game with Final Fantasy XIII it’ll soon become evident that Versus may be the jrpg that has a better chance of appealing to 360 gamers than Final Fantasy XIII.
Versus will offer an entire world to explore with large open fields that you’ll presumably be able to access throughout the entire game, not after 20+ hours of being stuck on a seemingly endless linear path like FFXIII. It’s not known if chocobos will be a form of transportation in Versus but if riding big yellow birds isn’t your thing, cars and airships will be available in Versus .
While you were on the endless corridor of FFXIII, you had no choice but to engage everything in your way. The enemies on the fields, the very big fields, in Versus will be visible as well, with certain monsters will appear randomly. These monsters may choose to attack you immediately.
Don’t expect Versus to be filled with the same generic, JPop inspired, unbearable, cheesy-to-annoying cast of characters that was ever found together in the same video game like FFXIII. This kind of lineup may be tolerated and overlooked by fan boys of the series but I don’t know how Square Enix expected those new to Final Fantasy, (generation XBox ) to tolerate such. Fortunately, the cast of XIII Versus won’t be plagued by this problem.
The protagonist of Versus, Noctis Lucis Caelum, has a personality that he only shares with his friends. Nomura stated that he wanted to give Noctis a personality different from other characters in previous games of the franchise. Noctis is accompanied by three others who ,so far, don’t appear to fall anywhere in the category of FFXIII’s cast. It should also be noted that Versus will include ,for the first time ever for the series, a greater degree of blood and violence plus a more mature story than the one found in FFXIII.

Like I said earlier, there’s still a lot about Versus that still hasn’t been revealed to the public. From what we do know about the next part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII compilation is that when compared to FFXIII, Versus is the one jrpg developed by Square Enix that may also be suited for the 360.
But that’s just my opinion.
I agree but Versus XIII won’t be able to work on Xbox 360 as its specified towards PS3.
Anyway Lightning >>>>>>> Noctis
It’s Final Fantasy Versus XIII, not Final Fantasy XIII Versus.
Let’s hope it gets released on the Xbox 360 as well. FF XIII sold really well on Microsoft’s console and so will FF vs XIII.
One thing only, the generation XBox you just mention might not be that new to Final Fantasy. I own a XBox 360 this gen and have been a FF fan since VII. I just bought the X360 because FF XIII was going to be released for it, the console had the best price at the time and honestly, the PS3 had few good exclusives at the time(still has, unfortunatly).
yea but the xbox will only bring quality down,….besides its the generation xbox that supports cheesy storylines…
1. Learn how to spell.
2. No, it would not make a better candidate to go multiplatform because it will ruin the quality just ike what happened with FFXIII.
They should just stick to being PS3 exclusive if they want to still increase the quality of the game. FFXIII was downgraded bec they want to put it in 360 and we all what happened next.
Kid get over it FFXIII was a good game. SE never said it was going to be linear or not. Maybe thats why there making 2 different games one linear and one not. Ever think of that? Jesus Christ you ppl cry over the smallest things. Fuck the Xbox all it does is slow down production for FF. Keep it exclusive on the PS3 were its ment to shine.
I wonder why you seem so sure that versus will even come to the 360. Unless you want a repeat of XIII with linearity, Versus won’t come to the 360.
There is not enough space on the disc to hold all of the space and free world versus has to offer without having to swap discs when you want to go around.
The way things are shaping up for this game I am certain that it will remain exclusive.
An open world game on multiple discs? What a joke… Do you really think that Square’s going to remove the CGI’s from the game or something?
Then we have the problem of too many discs and devs are going to start to cut content so they can fit it on 3-4 DVD…
This is just like Gran Turismo 5, too much content for a DVD to handle.
FF13 is dispoint me, i look 4 versus13 from 1st place in E3 2006
final fantasy numbered games should stay exclusive to PS3 so they don’t have to adapt to masses of stupid, racist teenagers on xbox360
tryi9ng to get these games away from the cheesy anime/jpop themes is just like expecting Halo games to have good graphics
Let me clarify something:
I’m not calling for Versus to go multiplatform.
I’m a Playstation fan who’d love to see the game stay a PS3 exclusive but I’m no fanboy. SE is a 3rd party company with the right to offer their games on every platform possible despite objections of many. If Versus goes multi it wouldn’t bother me one bit. I’m still getting the PS3 version.
I just think Versus is the one jrpg coming from SE that has a chance of appealing to a majority of 360 owners who may have been turned off by FFXIII.
If you agree or disagree with that feel free to say so, just please, try to keep the comments clean and on subject.
Well, this article pretty much seems like a rant about the linearity about FFXIII and how Xbox owners don’t like said linearity. Here’s a thought though: ever thought FFXIII went to the Xbox BECAUSE it’s linear? Game director said with linearity they could provide better thrilling emotions and a better sense of action , wich to me, seems like a game catered o the Xbox crowd. Traditionally PS users are older than those of the Xbox , and don’t require their games to have that in-your.face.constantly action that most 360 games do.
@ VINNIE!!!!!
while i agree wih most of what you said Vinnie the xbox is keeping the PS3 back in terms of what happened with ff13 could i please ask you TO LEAVE JESUS CHRIST out of this, HE is not just My LORD and SAVIOUR, and i’m tired of gamers, movies, even the damn game creators of abusing HIS name, why do i ask my self daily don’t you use alla or all those million other “godly” names out there….but no we have to use Jesus for our cursing!!!! do me and the world a favour next time you want to curse in some one’s name why not say fro satan’s sake cause he is doomed for eternal hell anyway so curse in his name if you want but STOP using OUR LORD’s NAME IN VAIN!!!!!!
ps: i also think that ff-versus won’t work on 360, just imagine how many discs they’ll need for this one if it fully use the muscle of the ps3
Have you ever thought that they could release a usb/dvd combo pack? You know you can hold up to 128 GB on a thumb drive? With WAY faster read than a bluray and no skip, that is the more logical choice.
Don’t think that Final Fantasy Versus XIII will go Multiplatform for a few reasons. 1)is that Tetsuya Nomura (director, story, character designer..you get the idea) said that he wanted the in-game graphics of versus to be as close to rendered graphics, and everyone should know by now that the PS3 is the perfered console for graphics. 2) If it does got multiplatform, and the graphics are as good as rendered, and it is open world it will be on a cr@p load of disks for the 360. unless they decide to put a lot less rendered scences in FFvsXIII. 3)Probably the biggest reason is just that Tetsuya Nomura is a PS3 fanboy (so it seems) and he is the “Hideo Kojima” of Square Enix.
A 128GB USB drive? Do you want the game to cost more than 200$. Those high capacity drives don’t come cheap you know.
I really hope this doesn’t go multiplatform, i really hope it doesn’t. FF13 went that way and was just messed up, and i blame it on Microsoft, as SE had made a deal with them when bringing it over to have both versions equal, taking down PS3 in a way, and there was about 3 towns made, basically near to complete but not put in, who knows why. Also, being PS3 exclusive will just make it a better game over all, allowing the company to just focus, and take advantage of the PS3 power. I wouldn’t mind if this came out at a later date for 360, but at least have them finish the PS3 one 100% and release, than do a 360 version if wanted.
You stated all the reason this is not a good candidate for the 360. With the dated DVD drive, and poor performance, they can’t pull off large worlds and stellar graphics.
FF13 was the prototypical 360 game. Long linear corridors to take advantage of boxing out large areas (like Gears) to cope with poor performance, dimwitted characters (appealing to Americans), and the game was completely butchered to be equal on both platforms and be able to run on the 360.
I hope Versus isn’t ruined for the sake of also being on the 360 like 13 was.
Just wait and see, this game is going multi, wether you like it or not.
No its not a better candidate… Why? Because its supposed to be far more serious, far bigger, and longer then FFXIII. We don’t need the game compromised and we don’t need more hate articles on Sony for losing an exclusive… Quit trying to argue about exclusives and going multiplatform. Exclusives will always be better if they focus on one console and really attempt to bring the most out of it. Crysis 2 is doing that on all platforms which is why it looks so great. They basically modified each engine for each platform for best performance with great graphics. But games like FFVersusXIII would need multiple discs and would make the game shorter and cut out more things. Less effort would be put into making the game and would go into solving the problem of going multiplatform.
It might be a good candidate but it isnt going to happen, and thank god for that.

ok so what part of “the game would not work on MS’s limited DVD0 format” or “the 360 has nowhere near the rendering capability to achieve real time CGI like is being promised for versus” don’t you understand?? That’s what make you sound like a fanboy, a technically ignorant one at that.
@Just wait and see, this game is going multi, wether you like it or not
You don’t know this, so dont presume it…
OH well if it goes to 360, the PS3 version wont be affected apart from a date, graphics will remain amazing on PS3 and be ported to 360.
It will have lots of discs and i dont like that.
Im NOT a Playstation Fanboy, i have a 360 and i play it often so dont say this is a response from a fanboy….
Well, if they are programming it for a low RAM console they might as well port it to the 360 and max it out. I know, the second console isn’t always as good as the original but there was hardly any difference between the PS3 and 360 versions of XIII(I know, I played both you ignorant fanboys).
Let’s face it, theoretically the PS3′s gpu is barely next gen and 256 ram is absolutely ridiculous. This game should ahve been on the Xbox 360 right from the start.
Yes but not only do the developers for PS3 use the GPU’s RAM, thechnically proficient developer also port much of the processes to the SPU’s so it can do ALOT more than the 360. Plus 50GB of space on one disc also help with larger titles like versus.
FF VS 13 should just stay a PS3 Exclusive
The majority of responses above show the intelligence of your common gamer. It’s actually pretty bad and ruins the perception of a gamer to everyday people. So what if it goes multi-plat? Purchase the game on your system of preference and enjoy it. Simple as that…
@Vinnie good game? what are you stupid? the whole entire game from beginning and end of final fantasy 13 was the same shit you idiot. Repetitive piece of shit having to use libra at the beggining of every new monster and boss you see. How the fuck is that fun and entertaining. Hence pressing X or A on the PS3 or xbox controller over and over. L1 to change to medic and L1 back to commando and then revert back when piece of shit box does an attack causing 90% of your HP to vanish. That game was built for obviously idiots like you who dont have the attention span of a normal individual to choose what command you want your character to perform instead you rather press X X X X X X X X or A A A A A A A in every battle
I have no problem with Versus going multiplatform if it does, but your reasonings are really dumb.
I don’t exactly see a reason in this post that proves why versus may be better suited for Xbox. But as long as:
1. They will use the full power of the ps3 instead of toning down the quality to match the Xbox
2. The time of versus release would not be delayed
3. Gaming experience would not be changed to appeal to western fans [Music, storyline(Neir)]
Then why not? The console war is stupid. Just buy the game you want on your own console and don’t mind other people’s business.
WE GAMERS SHOULD UNITE!
This doesn’t really have anything to do with going multiplatform or anything, but…why is the game called Final Fantasy Versus 13? I know its a different installment of the Fabula Crystal-thing, but when i looked at the title, i thought the “Versus” part meant multiplayer capabilities, but i guess i was wrong?
Not completly sure myself but I think it’s called Versus XIII because Square Enix considered it unsuitable as an iteration of the main Final Fantasy series due to the concept, plot and structure. That’s according to the game’s wiki.
So maybe it’s called Versus because it’s a bit different than most Final Fantasies.
Why should they bring Versus XIII to the 360? People are just going blame the console for every flaw in the game.
