During the same interview with Nikkei Trendy’s continuing “keyman” series where Sega’s Naoya Tsurumi revealed the company’s plans for Vanquish’s worldwide outing, Tsurumi-san gave his thoughts on the difficult process of competing with the growing popularity of movie-like-games in the west.
From andriasang:
Games like Assassin’s Creed II and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 had strong sales in North America. They ate into Sega’s own titles, said Tsurumi.
Tsurumi feels that games of the above form with Hollywood-style production values can sell well in the North American market. He brought up Final Fantasy XIII as evidence of this. The market for “movie-like games” in Europe and North America is expanding, he said.
I don’t mind games with big Hollywood style productions as long as developers don’t sacrifice the gameplay and fun factor of said game in it’s favor.
