Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced to the public back in 2006. Since then curious gamers have been teased with CG trailers of the game and little-to-no new details.
In classic Square Enix fashion of announcing games half a decade before completion, it appears fans will have longer to wait for Versus’ release. During a round table interview session in Korea some of Square Enix’s top chocobos were asked how the development of Versus XIII was going:
Regarding FFXIII sister project Final Fantasy Versus XIII, the staff said “It’s taking some time, but development is progressing well. We plan on showing it at the appropriate time. We have the FFXIII localization and FFXIV, so I believe it will come after that.”
Square Enix CEO Yochi Wada mentioned earlier in May that FFXIV is scheduled for a worldwide release this fiscal year meaning Final Fantasy Versus fans still have until after March 2011 for the game’s arrival.
Will anyone care by then?
Part of me wants to say, “Bah! I’m already beginning to lose interest, especially with the disappointment of FFXIII!”…but then I’d be lying. It is taking WAY too long to complete this game, that’s for certain, but let’s just hope all this hype doesn’t go into in and totally disappoint like FFXIII did for so many. It does seem like the Versus team knows what made FFXIII suck, so there’s still hope!
