Square Enix’s Nier Initially Was a 360 Exclusive

Square Enix’s Executive Producer Yosuke Saito, during an interview with a Japanese website Inside Games, stated the company’s original plans for Cavia’s Nier were limited to one console.

We were initially planning an Xbox 360 target, which we expanded to PS3 multiplatform afterwards.

It was during the same interview that some at Square Enix and Cavia were in disaggrement of exactly what the main character in Neir should look like as the company continues it’s attempts to appeal to “western gamers.”

Whether or not PS3 owners should be thankful Square Enix decided for a multiplatform launch of Neir depends on who you ask. Judging from sales in Japan where the PS3 version of NieR Replicant is sitting at the 7th spot with  total sales of 109,000 while the 360 version is nowhere to be found on the top 50,  I think Square Enix is pretty much thankful at this point.
