Good News & Bad News From Namco Bandai

It’s earnings report season and Namco Bandai released theirs this week.

We’ll start with the good news:

Tekken 6 proved to be Namco’s best selling game during the fiscal year. The game sold 1.84 million units on the PS360 in Europe, Japan and Asia with the PSP version selling 470,000. For whatever reason the company chose not to release data on North American sales. Draw your own conclusion there. Ben 10 Alien Force sold 1 million units as well.

Now for the bad news:

The publisher’s annual sales came in at ¥378.5 billion ($4.1 billion), which was  an 11 percent decline from the last year. Namco Bandai’s net loss for the year was ¥29 billion ($317 million) compared to income of ¥11.8 billion ($129 million) a year ago. Namco Bandai blamed the company’s financial decline on  “weak market conditions”.  Despite the decline Namco still forsees a turn to the upside thanks to the company’s cost cutting plans.

Perhaps Tekken 6 would have sold more if the game wasn’t a 2 yr old arcade port with nothing new to offer besides the mediocre Scenerio Mode.
