Metal Gear Solid: Raiden’s Rising

Famed Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima’s next PS3 game will finally feature a character that isn’t nicknamed after a cold blooded reptile.

Metal Gear Sold: Rising will star a character that was first introduced in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty for the PS2. Raiden was one of the most hated characters in gaming initially. Fans of Metal Gear were turned off by the fact that they had to play through a majority of MGS2 as ‘the new guy’. Kojima thought telling the story of MGS2 through someone else’s eyes other than Snake’s would be an interesting change for the series.

Unfortunately, fans had few good things to say about Raiden.  Raiden took a backseat in MGS3: Snake Eater but he was parodied in the game.

Raiden’s character was revamped in MGS4: Guns of the Patriots for the PS3. He became the ‘bad ass’,yet unplayable, cyborg ninja throughout the story. Ironically some gamers were disappointed that he wasn’t playable in the story but Raiden can be played in MGS:Online as a special character.

With Metal Gear Solid: Rising, Raiden gets his chance to star in a Metal Gear game without being in the shadow of Snake. Little is known about the game but some presume MGS:Rising will provide a back story behind Raiden’s transformation from a wimpy side kick to a lightning fast cyborg ninja.
