Final Fantasy XIII Could Be The Most Dissappointing Game of The Series

Final Fantasy XIII was released in Japan in December of 2009 to a long line of anxious Japanese gamers. Square Enix proudly announced the game sold over a million copies in it’s first week and the company had shipped 2 million copies of the game in the region.  Little did gamers know, FFXIII was nothing more than a “corridor marathon” filled with eye candy. Two months later FFXIII’s  price had plummeted more than 50% as retailers were inundated with returns of the game.

Even with the discounted price some retailers are finding it next to impossible to move supplies of the game. As for those 2 million copies Square Enix shipped in Japan some 200k have yet to have found a PS3 to play in. This being on top of the copies that have been returned.

So how’s FFXIII doing in the rest of the world? We’ll have to wait for the official NPD numbers to be released next month in North America to see where FFXIII sales stand for the month of March.

It’ll be interesting to see if what’s happened in Japan will repeat itself around the world.
